2 Poles, 2 Fastest laps and 2 Nearly Wins!

The Formula Jedi championship arrived at Donington Park for the final 2 races of the season.

Saturday morning, a wet qualifying, with the track beginning to dry times started to plummet, it all came down to the final few minutes to see who would take pole. Lee eventually came out on top and took his 10th pole of 2013.

Race 1 – The track now completely dry, lights out, a good start but was piped into turn 1 by Dan Clowes. Lee immediately began to challenge, Dan defended for 6 laps making it tough to pass until Lee with a great drive out of Coppice, a tow down Starkeys Straight and a dive up the inside into the Esses took first. Pulling away, the lead grew to 6 seconds with only a hand full of laps to go, then disaster, the exhaust manifold broke resulting in Lee having to pull the car into the pits.

Sunday wet qualifying yet again, a tough qualifying session where Lee took his 2nd pole of the weekend, the 11th pole position of 2013.

Race 2 – Another dry start to the race, this time Lee held off the field into turn 1, starting to build a lead straight from the off. As Lap 2 began, the clouds started to roll in bringing spots of rain, getting heavier it began to affect the cars performance and by lap 10 the race was red flagged. All returned to Parc Ferme where competitors believed the race was over due to safety, however officials decided to re-run the remaining 7 minutes of the race once all drivers had changed from slicks to wets.

On the restart, due to the track conditions being poor, officials decided on 2 installation laps instead of 1 enabling drivers to warm their tyres and get a feel for the track. The cars lined up in position, as the lights went out the field set off with disaster for Lee, his driveshaft broke under acceleration and the with cars flying past he coasted back to the pit and a second DNF of the weekend.

Lee said ‘It was a brilliant weekend other than 2 mechanical failures which cost me both races with only minutes to go in both, luckily I managed to wrap up the title last time out at Cadwell. So it was 2 poles, 2 fastest laps and 2 NEARLY WINS”
