Splashing the champagne at Spa

Lee headed to Spa Francorchamps for rounds 7 & 8 part of the Spa Summer Classic.  Glorious summer conditions Lee managed grid 5 for both weekend races, considering that there was over 50 cars out on track all trying to qualify.

Race 1 looked to be dry as the cars headed to the grid on slicks ahead of the warm up lap when the heavens opened up and the race declared wet. A manic rush on the grid to change tyres, the team opted for intermediates Lee said this was the wrong choice, but still managed 3rd place from starting 5th after some great racing in heavy rain and tricky conditions.

Race 2 Lee opted for full wets this time adding a bit of extra wing, a fantastic start and into 2nd place going into La Source hairpin, losing a chunk from his front wing forcing him to lift off the throttle and losing drive towards the famous Eau Rouge dropping him back to 5th.  Lee battled hard to finish 3rd and his second podium of the weekend.

The results were Lee’s best ever finishes in the championship and moved him to third in the points standings. It has given him a confidence boost at the midway mark.  A good result to kick start the second half of the season.

Lee said “it was a great result, Spa was a fantastic track, rewarding and great fun to drive.  It was just an amazing feeling to stand on the F1 podium looking and appreciating the fans, hearing the national anthem, picking up the trophies and splashing the champagne. Two third places were as good as we could have expected this weekend as we are desperate for new upgrade parts to the car to increase grip levels

Lee’s next race is Oulton Park on Saturday 18th July, he is inviting all to come along to watch him race and meet the team.
